NSW Dohne Prime Lamb Schools Competition, Orange NSW
NSW Dohne Prime Lamb Schools Competition
2026 will see the inaugural running of the NSW Dohne Prime Lamb Schools Competition, with the competition concluding over 1 day at Orange NSW – arriving on the 28 July the competition will be run on the 29 July 2026. Twenty-six Schools from NSW will be taking part in this competition, picking up their lambs on the 25 February. They will be responsible for the husbandry of these animals till July, with the lambs then being shorn, measured and slaughtered.
Gundagai Meat Processors will now do two separate small kills for these lambs. Students will select two wether lambs the week of the 6 to 10 July to be transported to Gundagai Meat Processors on the 13 July for slaughter and carcass data in readiness for competition day. The remainder of the lambs (3) will come to Orange to have all other selective and objective data taken, then these lambs will go back to a selected farm to be held for 3-4 weeks before going to Gundagai Meat Processors for processing.

Australian Sheep & Wool Show
The Australian Sheep and Wool Show is the largest show of its type in the world where each year up to 3000 sheep from across Australia with 30 plus breeds compete in the show ring. Added to that are up to 400 trade sites covering everything from the finest woollen clothing to large machinery. Shearing and Dog trial competitions are also part of the event as is a Festival of Lamb marquee showcasing how to cut up a carcass and cook food.
